1836 Arkansas became a state
1882 Sugar Loaf (later Heber Springs) was incorporated
1883 Cleburne County became a county and 2 Methodist congregations were organized.
1887 Land was purchased for a church building
1890 Methodist Episcopal Church, South (new name of Sugar Loaf Mission)
1914 Sold the church building to the Presbyterian Church and moved to 4th and Spring Street
1921 New Methodist congregation organized at Tumbling Shoals
1926 Tornado damaged the building and it was rebuilt
1940 Fire destroyed some of the exterior and most of the interior
1949 The two Methodist churches in Heber Springs united.
1968 The name became First United Methodist Church
1974 Land was purchased for a new church building at 11th and Pine
1977 Ground was broken
1979 Moved into the present facilities
1988 Tumbling Shoals United Methodist Church merged with FUMC Heber Springs
1997 Family Life Center built
2008 Stone house purchased and dedicated as the "Storm Shelter" for our youth
2008 Major sanctuary renovations performed
2011 Renovations to our Education facilities and transforming the Family Life Center into a
Worship Center
Our Vision Team has been instrumental in moving our Contemporary Service to the Family Life Center.
